The leading or front surface (relative to the direction of motion) of any part of the watch will experience pressure increase while the lagging or rear surface will experience pressure decrease. There will be a pressure differential created and if this differential is enough to cause distortion of O-rings or gaskets, even instantaneously, a leak will occur.
