Industry News - Adrian Frutiger Developes Watch Dials for Ventura
The internationally renowned Swiss font-developer and typographer Adrian Frutiger has created a new watch dial exclusively for Ventura, the avant-garde watch manufacturer.
The «Frutiger watch» was shown for the first time at Baselworld 2003.
Adrian Frutiger has developed some of today's most widely used fonts such as Univers, Frutiger, and Avenir. He created special fonts for the entire Charles-de-Gaulle airport in Paris and also for the Paris Metro. Recently, the Swiss Federal Government announced the replacement of the national street signs with new ones based on a font by A. Frutiger.
The creation of a watch dial was a totally new and fascinating task for Adrian Frutiger. Searching for a most readable, well balanced proportions, he composed «Ventura», a new font and designed a very classic and elegant dial-typography.
The new Frutiger chronometer is based on a manual-wind Unitas movement and a case designed by Swiss architect Hannes Wettstein.
The numbered series in stainless steel will appear at selected stores in late May. There will be a limited edition of 49 pieces of the same model in 18kt gold and with a certificate autographed by A. Frutiger.
